Carlos and Carmen: The Sweet Treasure

 

Summary:  Carlos and Carmen want to make this year's Fathers Day really special for Papá.  At first they don't know what to do, but working together, they come up with the perfect idea --  a treasure hunt.  Luckily for Papá, the twins are with him every step of the way making sure that he solves the clues, follows the map, and finds the extra-special treasure.

Chapter One: The Plan
 

Carlos and Spooky tiptoed into Carmen’s room.

​

“Wake up,” Carlos whispered.

​

“Mmmuhh,” Carmen mumbled.

​

“Come on, Carmen,” Carlos said.  “We’ve got stuff to do today.”

​

“Huhuhh,” Carmen grumbled.

​

Carlos said.  “Mañana is Father’s Day, and we have nada planned.”

​

Spooky crept down the bed and pounced on Carmen’s feet.

​

Carmen’s eyes flew open.  She threw off her covers and sat up.

​

“Let’s make a Día del Padre plan,” Carlos said.

​

Carmen was wide awake now.  She said, “It needs to be a fun plan.”

​

“With everything Papá likes,” said Carlos.

​

“Like puzzles,” said Carmen.

​

“And treasure,” said Carlos.

​

“And ice cream,” added Carmen.  “Helado is Pápa’s favorite.”

​

The twins thought and thought.  

​

“We could bury some helado and treasure hunt for it,” said Carmen.

​

“I think the helado would get all melty,” said Carlos.

​

The twins thought some more.  Off in the distance, they heard the ice cream truck’s bell.

​

Suddenly Carlos looked at Carmen, and Carmen looked at Carlos.

​

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” they said.

​

And, because they were twins, they were.
