Chapter One:  Flowers and Toast

Carlos and Carmen ran to the kitchen.  They were the first ones up, and they had lots to do.

Carmen washed the strawberries, and Carlos made the toast.  Then they rushed outside.  Carmen picked three big yellow daffodils, and Carlos picked three pink tulips.

“Mamá will like these flores for Mother’s Day,” Carlos said as he and Carmen rushed back inside.

“And she’ll like the yummy breakfast we made,” added Carmen.

The twins hurried to their parents’ room.  They burst into the room and shouted, “¡Feliz Día de las Madres!”

“We made you breakfast!” said Carmen as she placed the breakfast on the bed.

“And we picked you flores!” Carlos said.

 “What about me?” asked Papá.

“Oh, Papá,” said Carmen.  “It’s Mother’s Day.  Father’s Day comes later.”

“But, I’ll share with you,” said Mamá, and she handed Papá a piece of toast.
